A Question of Spirituality

Question: What do I look for spiritually in a mate?

Answer: Someone open-minded about religion.

After growing up Mormon, I’m completely burned out on traditional religions, and as a Pagan I must admit that I often feel bitter toward radical groups focused around organized religion. Let’s not even get into witch burnings and suicide bombers. Basically, what I want to say is that I need a woman that can accept the notion that there is no one religion with the Truth (capital T).

I think some religions definitely have a part of the Truth. Some have more than others, but the pursuit of it is what philosophers have been agonizing over for millennia. None have the whole picture, though, and anyone that thinks that their religion does is simply foolish. If they did, then there would be no question.

Pagans can believe a lot of things, and many people can be Pagans and Christians or Muslims, or Buddhists, etc., and so I have no problem accepting someone with a religion other than my own, but I can’t take anyone seriously who will defend their beliefs against all logic and reason. That’s not faith; it’s stupidity.

So for me to respect someone, they need to respect other religions.

  1. Paul Maurice Martin Says:

I’d also add there’s NO TRUTH WITH ALL CAPS. No kidding, it really bugs me – seems especially characteristic of fundamentalists – when they PRAISE THE LORD and TALK ABOUT THEIR OWN LOVE OF THE LORD AND HOW THEY WISH OTHERS WERE EQUALLY BLESSED and PRAY FOR THEM etc.

Fundamentalists need to let go of caps lock. It really doesn’t make for compelling argumentation.

I really don’t know why I’m telling you all this… oh, right – Truth with a capital T…

    Preach on, Brother Paul!
